Nick agrees to invite Daisy to tea, much to Gatsby's delight. When the day finally comes, it's raining and Gatsby is beyond anxious. He is so worried about making a good impression after all these years that he gets Nick's grass cut, fills his house with Daisy's favorite flowers, and brings over a fancy tea set. When Daisy finally arrives and Nick answers the door, they return to the living room to find that Gatsby has disappeared. Nick finds him on the porch, soaking wet, after he walked around the house in the rain. Then he finally enters and surprises Daisy. It's super awkward between the two at first, but after Nick leaves them alone for a half an hour, he returns to find them happy. Since the rain has stopped, the three go to Gatsby's house, where he shows off all of his riches. Daisy is overwhelmed by it all; she even cries after seeing his clothes that were imported from Europe.
I think this whole chapter was really awkward. I don't think I could ever go through with such an event; I just don't know how I would react, if I was in Gatsby's position, Daisy's position, or Nick's position. It clearly took Gatsby so much courage to finally contact Daisy again. Although, he kind of buffered the whole situation with his wealth. He was definitely counting on the fact that Daisy would be very impressed by his new life, and she was, so of course he was confident that she would accept him back into her life. However, Gatsby seems to have built up this fantastical image of life with Daisy, and I'm not sure that things will necessarily live up to that.
